Template intent: "Why developers in [location] are shipping at insane speed" is rendered for Thurgau (region) and continuously updated from live maker commit activity.

How it works

  1. Sign in with GitHub.
  2. We sync your commits and calculate net lines of code (additions minus deletions).
  3. Your daily garrytan score is computed and appears on the leaderboard.

Quick facts:

  • 1 garrytan is roughly 20,000 net LOC in one day.
  • Daily scores are capped at 5.0, because nobody needs to see a 7.3 garrytans flex.

FAQ

What is a garrytan?

A garrytan is a fun, unofficial unit of AI-powered coding productivity.

1 garrytan ≈ 20,000 net lines of code (LOC) added in a single day.

It was created by the developer community as a humorous way to measure output against Garry Tan's legendary daily numbers.

Who is Garry Tan?

Garry Tan is the CEO of Y Combinator. In March 2026 he open-sourced gstack, his custom AI coding setup, and started publicly sharing that he was shipping 10k–37k lines of usable code per day — all while running YC full-time. The internet immediately turned his output into the "garrytan" meme.

What does LOC mean?

LOC = Lines Of Code.

We only count net lines added (additions minus deletions) from your GitHub commits. This keeps the metric honest and reflects real codebase growth instead of raw AI spam.

When was the garrytan meme created?

The meme started in mid-March 2026, right after Garry open-sourced gstack on March 12. The first viral "0.014 garrytans" post appeared shortly after and the unit quickly spread through the AI/dev community.

Do you get access to my actual code?

No.

When you sign in, we only ask for read-only access to your public and private repositories so we can count commit stats (additions/deletions). We never see, store, or read the actual source code — just the line counts.

How often is the leaderboard updated?

Every 15 minutes.

New scores usually appear within 15–20 minutes after you push commits.

How far back does the data go?

We backfill LOC data all the way to March 12, 2026 (the day gstack launched).

Anything before that date is not included.

Is this site affiliated with Garry Tan or Y Combinator?

Absolutely not.

This is a completely unofficial fan-made meme site. We just think Garry's productivity numbers are hilarious and turned them into a scoreboard for the rest of us.

Why is the daily score capped at 5.0 garrytans?

Because even we have limits on copium.

A 5.0+ day would mean 100k+ net lines — which is basically superhuman. We cap it so the leaderboard stays fun and believable.
